SAUSAGE TRAIN

We're off to Hamburg on Thursday for a long weekend.  While there we're going to pop in at FC St. Pauli as the take on Wolfsberg Wanderers.  I say pop in, the whole weekend revolves around St. Pauli.  We stay above the main ruffian pub - The Jolly Roger - opposite the ground.  They have a hostel and we take the honeymoon suite.  The room conists of 2 bunk beds and one double, a giant St. Pauli heart tattoo painted on the wall and a huge moody picture of the floodlights over the Millerntor.  The ground is spitting distance and last time we hung a soggy BHA towel over our balcony, much like those early astronauts sticking the stars and stripes in the moon's surface.

This weekend also welcomes the Hamburger Dom.  Yes, it sounds like a post-McDonalds belly but it is in fact a wild fun fair parked between the football ground and the huge anti-aircraft bunker (which aslo doubles as a quite fantatsic techno club too).  Remember that bit in Pinocchio when he goes to Pleasure Island and theres booze and fags and all sorts, well that's Hamburger Dom, a bi-annual circus of sausage, beer and scary rides.

The match will be good too though; we get to see Schteve McLaren in action as head coach of the Wolves as 12th play 13th in the Bundesliga.  FCSP have had a mixed start, getting out of the blocks quickly but losing their last 4.  This is must-win.

The picture at the top shows the Millerntor's sausage train, a feature for the VIPs along with their own beer tap.  I can't imagine this at Withdean but we can dream.
